300 format changed once again

Apparently, the Thompson 300 will not be this year. Instead the Whelen Modified Tour, True Value Modified Racing Series, Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series and the Sunoco (SK) Modifieds will compete for a combined total of 400 laps.

While all these different Series in one weekend will be cool , I definitely plan to attend, I just hate to see the crown jewel of the Tour disappaer. With a lack of races this season, this race should have been left alone.

The campground should prove interesting, I can see more than one campfire debate over which Tour is the best.

At least it is all modifieds I guess. And the pits will look like the 300's back in the late 70's early 80's, when over 150 cars would enter the event.

i really dont care the 300 is gone,we now have 4 different types of modifieds that will be racing which i think is awesome. Besides this years race was terrible even though it was my first time in the infield for the tour i still thought the race part sucked, are they going to have the other weekly racing divisions there?

Not sure Chris . I would hope not actualy. Make it all Modifieds at least, if you are going to kill history.

I also have been on crews for the 300. And to be it was the highligh of the season. The intesity was unparralled. Even during preparations at the shop, the entire team seemed more focused, and intense. This was the BIG one, 300 laps.

The 300 is not just a contest of speed, but also of survival. At lap 150, most races are in the record book. In the 300, it is just getting started. Twice as many laps, twice as many pit stops, and twice as many chances of something going wrong.

While at times the race can get boring, there always seems to be drama near the finish.

I like the idea of bringin all the Tours together on the same weekend, just NOT 300 weekend. Maybe it is because I am getting older and missing the past, but I say we should leave history alone on this one.

Just my opinions , which I hear the value of is not increasing. LOL.
