Andy Santare the 2005 NASCAR Busch East Series Champion, tested the new GM spec engine recently. Desined by Carl Wegner the engine is less than half the current $40,000 dollar price. At $15,000 it is about the price of freshening the motors used now. In testing Santare's laps times with the spec motor were the same as the current ones. NASCAR is also looking at composite bodies that would help to bring the total cost of a car from the current $100,000 to around $50,000 .
