Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
im about to pull my hair out by the roots......... im thinking darlington 1950 with johnny mantz starting 43rd with 75 cars starting....... although they did start a sportsman race on the beach course with 120 cars....... how would that look in these days "the big one" lol
That's the man I was looking for. It's amazing that they could start with such large fields back then. When you consider a 75 car field, 43rd was mid pack.
The next deepest start for a winner was Bill Elliot at Daytona in July 1988 and Elliot Sadler at Bristol in 2001 both from the 38th out of 43 cars.
