Flagman John Spence Jr. had the field of twenty-three cars rolling out of turn four to take the green. Dolan wasted no time to jump out front for the lead.  Les Hinckley in the Chuck Montville owned 06 got by Daniels and Billings to take over the second spot on lap seven from his fifth starting position. By lap twenty-five Dolan and Hinckley were leading the field with a half a track length over the field.  Dolan's car appeared to be hooked up as he began to lap cars at the back of the field.   Daniels who had started the third spot began to slip back as his car became ill handling.  At lap fifty Dolan collected the Black Mountain and Painting half way bonus as he continued to lead all previous laps.  Lap cars would become a factor as the 35 of Dale Evonsion took over the lead from Dolan on lap sixty.  Evonsion had quietly made his way to the front from his tenth starting spot.  Dolan's chance to regain the lead came on lap sixty-three when the first caution of the race came out.  Turn one collected three cars who made slight contact with each that included the 76 of Peter Daniels, 21 of Glen Billings and the 41 of Karl Fredrickson.  Minor damage done put these cars to the back of the pack and the field was set for the restart with Evonsion  and Dolan on the front row.  Hinckley remained a threat in the third spot with Jack Bateman in the 17 on the outside of Hinckley.    Green did not stay out long as on lap sixty-four the caution would fly for the fourth place runner Bateman.  On the restart contact would break the right front of Bateman's car sending him to pit road for repairs.  With Bateman on pit road for repairs Chris Wenzel in the 83 moved up to the fourth spot followed by points leader Kirk Alexander who was looking to clinch his thirteenth victory in 2005 along with winning back to back championships.
