Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
Lee, NH: Jimmy Dolan of Bethel, CT captured his first ever modified victory and became the seventh different winner with the True Value Modified Racing Series this past weekend at Lee USA Speedway. Oktoberfest at Lee USA Speedway spanned over two weekends due to rain and snow but couldn't of asked for a better day of racing on the 30th of October. With qualifying completed the previous weekend the modifieds took to the track for one hundred laps of ground pounding action. Jimmy Dolan in the 69 started on the pole with new comer to the series Glen Billings of Glastonbury, CT in the 21 on the outside. Peter Daniels qualified for the third starting position. Not many were aware that this feature was to be Daniels final modified race. Daniels shared that his plans were to spend more time with his family. Rookie Luke Royea started in the fourth position, Royea who at the start of the feature was just one point behind rookie of year competitor Tom Abele in the 32, Abele started in the sixteenth position.
Flagman John Spence Jr. had the field of twenty-three cars rolling out of turn four to take the green. Dolan wasted no time to jump out front for the lead. Les Hinckley in the Chuck Montville owned 06 got by Daniels and Billings to take over the second spot on lap seven from his fifth starting position. By lap twenty-five Dolan and Hinckley were leading the field with a half a track length over the field. Dolan's car appeared to be hooked up as he began to lap cars at the back of the field. Daniels who had started the third spot began to slip back as his car became ill handling. At lap fifty Dolan collected the Black Mountain and Painting half way bonus as he continued to lead all previous laps. Lap cars would become a factor as the 35 of Dale Evonsion took over the lead from Dolan on lap sixty. Evonsion had quietly made his way to the front from his tenth starting spot. Dolan's chance to regain the lead came on lap sixty-three when the first caution of the race came out. Turn one collected three cars who made slight contact with each that included the 76 of Peter Daniels, 21 of Glen Billings and the 41 of Karl Fredrickson. Minor damage done put these cars to the back of the pack and the field was set for the restart with Evonsion and Dolan on the front row. Hinckley remained a threat in the third spot with Jack Bateman in the 17 on the outside of Hinckley. Green did not stay out long as on lap sixty-four the caution would fly for the fourth place runner Bateman. On the restart contact would break the right front of Bateman's car sending him to pit road for repairs. With Bateman on pit road for repairs Chris Wenzel in the 83 moved up to the fourth spot followed by points leader Kirk Alexander who was looking to clinch his thirteenth victory in 2005 along with winning back to back championships.
Jack Bateman's 17 brought out the second caution of the night on lap eighty-nine after making contact with the turn three wall ending his night. Evonsion and Dolan continued to dominate the front row. Jimmy Kuhn in the 72 and Chris Wenzel in the 83 continued to pursue the leaders as they filled the mirrors of Evonsion and Dolan on the restart. Kuhn took over the second spot from Dolan on the restart and pursued the lead from Evonsion. Evonsion and Kuhn ran bumper to bumper as Evonsion did all he could to keep Kuhn behind him. With four laps remaining Evonsion would loss the lead after contact between Evonsion and Kuhn had the 35 losing control down the front stretch bringing out the final caution. Neither driver agreed with the decision but by TVMRS rulebook both Evonsion and Kuhn were sent to the rear for contact causing the caution giving up the lead to Dolan who was running third. Wenzel rode out the remaining four laps in second followed by young gun Andy Seuss in the 70. Seuss who was the last TVMRS winner at Seekonk Speedway had started in the twenty-third position and quietly made his way to the front of the pack. The 70 crew were thankful mother nature brought rain the previous weekend canceling the feature as they had blown a motor on Saturday's qualifying. With the delay in running the feature event Seuss and crew were able to obtain a motor from Jack Bateman, series founder and owner of Jack's Competition Engines. With only twenty hot laps Seuss went into the one hundred lap feature not knowing what to expect. Along with the horsepower of the barrowed motor and Seuss's talents he made his way to the front and finished the night in the third spot.
Jimmy Dolan taking the checkered flag on lap one hundred to capture his first win in a modified. Fans and crews cheered as Dolan rolled into an emotional victory lane as his crew greeting him. As Dolan celebrated in victory lane he was handed a cell phone where he broke the news to his father of his win. Along with Dolan celebrating his win the 43 crew of Kirk Alexander celebrated their second championship with the True Value Modified Racing Series. Alexander finished seventh in the one hundred lap feature with second place points runner Peter Daniels three spots ahead of him. Alexander took the his second championship just twelve points ahead of Daniels.
Luke Royea in the 2 finished twelfth, four positions ahead of Tom Abele Jr. in the 32 to become Rookie of the Year for the 2005 season.
Veteran driver Bob Polverari made his final appearance with the True Value Modified Racing Series finishing ninth as he will retire at the close of 2005. Polverari wore his old number of 711 on the Rick Czarnecki owned car for the final event. Polverari plans to make the trip to the North South Shootout at Concord Motor Speedway in Concord, NC. Along with Polverari 2005 TVMRS Champion Kirk Alexander will make the trip as he was awarded a guaranteed qualified position earlier in the year with his win at Seekonk Speedway. Andy Seuss will make his second appearance at the North South Shootout in the Jerry Morello owned One Stop Toy Shop number 70.
The True Value Modified Racing Series will close out the 2005 season on November 12, 2005 with their awards banquet to be held in White River Junction, Vermont.
