Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. Claims Goodyear Speedweeks Cup Title Brian Hoar Wins Second 100 Lap Event

New Smyrna, FL Hudson, New Hampshires Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. worked his way through heavy traffic from his 18th starting position to finish 5th in the second round of the Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna, Florida on Monday, February 14. The fifth place effort along with his win in Sundays 100 lapper earned him the low score of six points, just edging out seven-time ACT Late Model Tour Champion Brian Hoar who earned seven points in the Goodyear Speedweeks Cup standings.
Hoar of Williston, Vermont took the win in Monday nights feature after starting 13th. Mark Lamberton of Mooers Forks, New York used a second place effort to claim third in the overall standings. In the final 100 lapper Jonathan Urlin of London, Ontario, Lee USA Speedway Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, New Hampshire, and Polewarczyk completed the top five. Quebecs Patrick Hamel, Massachusetts Eddie MacDonald, Quebecers Karl Allard and Patrick Laperle and Floridas Pete Potvin rounded out the top ten.
The early stages of the event saw Goodyear Speedweeks Cup Standing leaders Polewarczyk, Laperle, Quebecs Alex Labbé, Lamberton and Helliwell battle their way to the front. The outside groove appeared to be the fast lane as they worked their way to the front. Labbé fell out of contention after bouncing off the wall about midway through the event and lost a lap on pit road. Laperle made a pit stop for an adjustment while running in the top ten after the halfway mark and couldnt make it back to the front.
In the overall Goodyear Speedweeks Cup standings, Polewarczyk and Hoar were followed by Lamberton, Helliwell and Laperle in the top five. Urlin, MacDonald, Allard, Hamel, and Quebecs Donald Theetge completed the top ten.
Mondays event was completed in 56 minutes and 12 seconds with seven total cautions. The lead was swapped seven times among six drivers.
The American Canadian Tours first trip to the 2011 Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna, Florida has come to a close with Mondays event. The ACT stars will have several months off before their seasons begin. The ACT Late Model Tours season opener will be Sunday, April 17 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, New Hampshire, while the Série Castrol Edge will kick off its season on Saturday, May 21 at Autodrome St-Eustache in St-Eustache, Quebec.
