For Immediate Release Re: Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Tour Opener
East versus West in Albany Saratoga Speedway 2010 Opener. The Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour to do battle with the Modified Racing Series presented by Bob Valenti Auto Mall in a 100 lapper.
BINGHAMTON, NYThe 2010 Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour will get underway as part of a new era at the Albany Saratoga Speedway on Sunday, April 18th at 1:00 p.m.
The event being dubbed East versus West will see a combined 100 lap event between the RoC stars and the best of the Modified Racing Series presented by Bob Valenti Auto Mall.
An open practice will take place the day prior so that teams can test the newly paved surface.
Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour Champion will square off against Modified Racing Series Champion Jon McKennedy along with all of the top stars of both tours. Both series are going to award 50 show up points for this unique opportunity to showcase the two quality touring groups. One of the largest and most diversified fields of the 2010 season should be anticipated for the Albany Saratoga event.
For the speedway the excitement in the new era of pavement racing has been building all winter long. The dirt was removed from the surface with new pavement being put in place over the existing asphalt. Anticipation for the 2010 lid lifter is high as the Asphalt Modifieds make their return for the first time since the late 70s. Richie Evans was the last asphalt Modified Track Champion at the speedway.
The East versus West 100 will be run by both RoC and MRS race officials. The general rules will be based on the Modified Racing Series program with a few exceptions for the RoC teams. Teams will be running on the Hoosier left side M30 and right side M45 compounds. This is a new tire combination for the MRS teams in 2010 so teams will have little experience on it entering the event. The RoC teams will be making their first start on the tire compound for this race.
RoC Tour Coordinator Andrew Harpell commented, I attended a testing session at the speedway in the fall and the M30 and M45 compounds will be the best choice for this opening day race. He added, We will be competing on our traditional tire compounds the remainder of the season but with the opener being a 100 lap event on a new surface we knew we needed to provide the teams a longer lasting option for this race.
RoC teams will be allowed to compete on a non quick change rear end for this event and will also be permitted to utilize their traditional headers as well by adding 50 lbs. of weight All teams will need to follow the weights based on the MRS rulebook for this race. Teams looking to be issued the 50 point RoC bonus will not be permitted to compete with fiberglass roofs.
The 2010 RoC Dart Asphalt Modified Tour opener is just around the corner at Albany Saratoga on Sunday, April 18th. For additional information please contact the Race of Champions offices at 607-775-5555 or email rocpavement@aol.com. The official website can be found at www.raceofchampions.net.
