"Waterford Speedbowl to Kick-Off 2010 MRS Schedule"
W.Springfield, MA (November 22, 2009) The Modified Racing Series has organized an 18 race schedule for 2010. Series founder and President Jack Bateman made the announcement Saturday night, November 21, at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, W, Springfield, MA. site of the sixth-annual awards banquet to honor series competitors for the 2009 season.
The seventh year for the popular touring division will feature a different twist for the new campaign. Traditionally the MRS opens the season at the Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, NH. That race will not be run until Saturday night May 1.
The series will begin the new slate at Waterford, CT., Speedbowl as part as that race facilities 60th consecutive season of operation on Saturday and Sunday March 27 & 28.
Speedway operator Terry Eames addressed those in attendance at the Saturday night banquet stating "We are very pleased to be welcoming the Modified Racing Series for their first 2010 event. What makes this series so special is that in eight different races at Waterford, eight different drivers have won." Eames furthered, "we are pleased that your series (MRS) will be back for the Wings N Wheels event in August, and we have added the series to our Thunder On The Sound event on Labor Day weekend."
In April, the tour will compete outside New England when the action will shift to the newly-paved Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Malta, NY For the first time the RoC and MRS will run a combined race event on Sunday, April 18th at the famed oval.
The "East versus West" Asphalt Modified All-Star event will pit the best from the Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour against the very best from the New England based Modified Racing Series. The 100 lap race program will see the two organizations working together for the first time on a joint effort to put together what will be a must see event
After the Monadnock race, the series will be off until Memorial Day weekend when the ground pounders return to another famed race track, Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT., May 30.
In June, the action shifts to Twin State Speedway, Claremont, NH on Friday night, June 4, Seekonk Speedway, Seekonk, MA., on Saturday June 12, and Thompson Intl Speedway, Thompson, CT., Thursday, June 17.
Monadnock celebrates the Independence Day holiday weekend with 100 laps of MRS action on Saturday July 3. Lee USA Speedway will host the tour on Friday night July 9,
Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine, July 17, and a return to Canaan Fair Speedway, Canaan, NH., July 24.
August heats up with a return trip up Rte 95 to the famed Beech Ridge Speedway, Scarboro ME, August 7, Waterford Speedbowl with the ISMA Supermodifieds, NEMA midgets, and Waterford SK Mods on Saturday night Aug 14, Seekonk Speedway, August 21 and a second race at Thompson Intl Speedway, Thursday, August 26.
Labor Day weekend will include a trip to Waterford on Sept 4, Seekonk Speedway for the two-day DAV Festival of Racing Oct 9 and 10, and the season finale at Lee USA Speedway, Lee, NH., Oct 23 and 24.
