Friday Night LIVE SMS News & Results Thread 6/3/05

Racing at Stafford Motor Speedway 6/03/05

It's a little chilly up in the northeast section of CT tonight with a bit of wind as well, but it is not supposed to rain until much later this evening.  Tonight's event at the Stafford Motor Speedway does not appear to be in any danger of succumbing to severe weather.

Tonight's action has already involved some controversy.  Apparently Tony Lafo in the Late Model heat sent J.J. Hill airborne on the backstretch destroying Hill's car.  Tony was ejected from the heat, and will probably start scratch in the feature if he is allowed to run at all.  Hill's tire marks don the Haynes Constuction billboard above the backstretch wall, it seems appraent that the crew will not be able to repair the Guy Beaudoin Late Model entry.

(These are just eyewitness accounts and we look forward to the driver's side of things, come on Tony let us know what happened!)

There are 23 SK's entered into tonight's event, with newcomer Kevin Mathison (sp) joining the field, as well as Jess Hilger in the #2 SK Modified returning for the second time and owned by Catskill Mountain IMCA Driver John Cote Jr.  Apparently, after being involved in a practice crash his first night of competition (also involving Donny Lia), Hilger left SMS due to unrepairable mechanical problems that night and hadn't returned since.  This will be his first ever SK feature and we wish the New Milford resident a safe run tonight.

The SK heats were won by Chuck Docherty and Kenny Horton!

The feature events are starting now with the Dare taking the track first, and tentative schedule being the Late Models, SK's and Lmited Late Models running scratch this evening.  That schedule is subject to change of course.

All the opinions expressed are that of the eyewitenss only, and may not be that of MakingLaps.com or it's staff.  We encourage others to post their views and opinions of toinight's events in this thread as well.

The chatroom will be open as soon as I can get there, join us tonight for LIVE podium results from SMS as they come in!  Click on the link below to join us!

  1. Rick Lanagan
  2. Tom Butler
  3. Jim Peterson
  4. Jay Stuart
  5. Jim Mavlouganes
  6. Mike Quintilliano

Ryan Possocco had mechanical trouble tonight causing him not to finish the event, good points night for everyone else because of it.  Tom Fearn's #92 did not run tonight due to mechanical trouble as well.  Tom drove Mike Quintillianos's #6 and finished toward the back.

The Sk's are on the track now!

After a horrendous second lap crash by Chuck Docherty brought out the red flag (so that the SMS track crew could repair damage to the wall between turns 1 & 2), the race went green until lap 34.  Chuck is fine, but did not continue the race.  Newcomer Mathison did not start the feature, leaving only 22 cars to compete.  Apparently a malee' on the last lap left cars spinning after the caution.

SK Results:

  1. Ted Christopher
  2. Frank Rocco
  3. Eric Berndt
  4. Donny Lia
  5. Willie Hardie Jr
  6. Todd owen
  7. Doug Coby
  8. Brad Hietela
  9. Keith Rocco
  10. Kurt Brainard
  11. Kenny Horton
  12. Chris Osella
  13. Jeff Baral
  14. Lloyd Agor
  15. John Sandberg
  16. Kenny Voight
  17. Jeff Johnson
  18. Jeff Malave
  19. Woody Pitkat
  20. Jess Hilger

Hi,  its Tony Lafo-  no E.  The incident with JJ Hill was a racing incident, I spoke to him immediately after on the infield,  he was cool with it.  I was black flagged from the heat, qualified in the 16 and finished 16th in the feature.  thats all, no big controversy.

We really respect that you took me up on my offer to reply to what happened on the track last night, Tony.  We hope that more drivers will take the opportunity to share "their side of the story" with the fans who only get the view from the stands, and/or hear the opinions of sometimes unobjective reporters in the booth.  We wish you much success in the rest of your 2005 Late Model season at SMS!
