The True Value Modified Racing Series made their second 2005 appearance at Monadnock Speedway this past Saturday night.  Mother Nature did her best to spoil the night of racing but patience prevailed for the fans and teams waiting out the rain on Saturday night.  The 100 lap Modified feature was sponsored by Gary's Power Equipment, Hamshaw Lumber, Vision Graphics and Fairfield Motors.  A high turn out of thirty-one teams packed the pit area tuning their cars with hopes to make the limited twenty-two car field main event.   With the track green from the recent rain the modifieds took to the track for three hair raising qualifying heats.  The consi was filled with top drivers such as Dwight Jarvis, Jack Bateman, Bruce Batchelder and Jimmy Kuhn along with 9 other drivers racing to fill the last seven qualifying spots of the main event.  Rob Goodenough would cash in on making the field only by using the available 2004 provisional to the top fifteen in points knocking Jimmy Kuhn from the last qualifying position.  Along with Kuhn, Jack Bateman, Dave Nichols, Bob Polvarari and Jimmy Dolan would not make the final field for the 100 lap event.

2004 Rookie of the Year Andy Seuss made an impressive run in his qualifier to settle into the pole position with veteran pro stock driver Roger Raymond in the #62 on the outside of Seuss.    It didn't take Raymond long to take over Seuss for the lead as the green flag dropped for the start of the 100 lap feature.  The first caution of the night would fall early on lap three for the 06 of Les Hinckley spinning in turn one.  The restart would remain Raymond and Seuss on the front row.  At the drop of the green Sean Bodreau in the Morningside Property Maintenance #1 would challenge Seuss and take over the second spot with Raymond holding on to the lead. Seuss would drop back to third and be challenged by Chris Wenzel of Holyoke, MA in the 83.  On lap number 19 veteran driver Rusty Ball in the Rusty's Speedshop #20 would have a broken front end rack causing him to pull to the back stretch grass bringing out the second caution of the night.  The front row of the restart would now be Raymond and Bodreau, Raymond would continue to be quick on the start keeping the lead while Bodreau would slip back to fourth while Seuss and Jim Boniface in the 71 would move up into the second and third spot. Bodreau would not settle for fourth as his opportunity would come in the next few laps when Boniface would get loose coming into turn one giving up the third spot to Bodreau. Andy Seuss in The One Stop Toy Shop number 70 would bring out the caution on lap 29.  Seuss in an attempt to challenge for the lead would dive down under Raymond coming out of turn three.  With no room to make the pass Seuss's right front would clip the rear panel of Raymond sending Seuss spinning into the grass giving up the second spot to Bodreau.  The front row would once again be Raymond and Bodreau but knocking the back door would be last year first and second place points finishers Peter Daniels in the RSD Truck 76 and the 43 of Kirk Alexander out of West Swanzey, NH.  Lap twenty-nine and thirty-two the caution would wave again, the later for the 06 of Hinckley spinning in turns three and four which may have been from fluid on the track.  On the restart Daniels would challenge and take the lead from Roger Raymond who would drop back to second to be challenged by the 48 of Ed Dauchenhausen of Danbury CT.  Lap forty-two would see contact between the 83 of Chris Wenzel and new comer Patrick Townsend of Springfield, MA in the Dan Avery owned number 18 spinning in turn four to bring out the caution once again. On the restart it would be Daniels, Raymond, Bodreau and Alexander.  Raymond would regain the lead but only for a short moment when on lap 45 Kirk Alexander in the JGS Construction number 43 would take over the lead.   On lap 47 Alexander would be challenged on a restart by the 9 of Dennis Albro who had been progressively making his way through the field from his eleventh starting position.  Alexander would hold off Albro who would have mechanical issues dropping him to the back of the field.  Alexander would continue to lead at the half way mark to cash in on the Black Mountain Painting Half Way Bonus.  The driver who is leading at the half way mark receives an additional $100 to their prize winnings at the end of the night.   Alexander would lock down the front spot leaving second through fifth positions to mix it up between Sean Bodreau in the 1, Dwight Jarvis in the Crown Point Builders number 28, Peter Daniels in the 76 and after coming from the back twice Les Hinckley was now making a challenge into the top five in the Montville owned number 06.  The remaining fifty laps would be caution free with some hard nose head to head modified racing.   Daniels would drop down a lap after contact from the 25 of Gary Casella sent him spinning through the grass on the back stretch but would not bringing out the caution.  Bruce Batchelder in the Vision Graphics 77 would have an impressive run making his way up into the fourth spot until a tire going down with only two laps to go would cause him to drop back in the field.  In the end it was Alexander at the line with Les Hinckley who made an impressive run from the back of the pack twice to take second, Dwight Jarvis would place third, Gary Casella fourth and rounding out the top five would be Sean Bodreau of Claremont, NH.

Les Hinckley would receive the Sunoco sponsored hard charger award for gaining 20 positions on the track from his 22nd starting position.  Les will receive a gift certificate worth 20 gallons of racing fuel from Sunoco.  The Sherwood Tire fifth place certificate would be awarded to Sean Bodreau.

With just two races into the season Les Hinckley holds the points lead by 20 points over Dwight Jarvis of Ascutney, Vermont.  The season is still young with a remainder of 16 races slated for the 2005 season.

Next week, Saturday, May 28th, the True Value Modified Racing Series will make their first 2005 visit to Seekonk Speedway at "The Cement Palace"  in Seekonk, MA.  The Modifieds will be running 100 ground pounding laps on the 1/3 mile track.  For more information on the True Value Modified Racing Series visit their site at www.modifiedracingseries.com.
