Thunder Road Promotes Click it or Ticket Program

Barre, VT – In association with the Vermont Governor’s Highway Safety Program, Barre’s Thunder Road will promote the “Click It Or Ticket” message in 2005, urging race fans to increase seat belt usage and keep safety a priority on Vermont’s highways.  Thunder Road’s “Click It Or Ticket” campaign will begin at the Merchants Bank 150 on Sunday, May 1, and continue through the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 29, culminating on Thursday, June 2 with Hannaford Markets/Pelletier Quick Lube Night.

“Our racers take every safety precaution they can on the track,” said Thunder Road General Manager Darla Hartt.  “We want our fans do the same on the road.”  According to the National Center for Statistics & Analysis, motor vehicle crashes were the #1 leading cause of death for ages 3 through 33 in the year 2002.  With a seat belt usage rate around only 79 percent, Vermont ranks 36th among the 50 U.S. states, meaning many Vermonters are taking needless risks on the road.

“With our new “Click It Or Ticket” program,” Hartt continued, “we will educate our race fans on the dangers of not buckling up, and hopefully they’ll realize that getting a ticket may not be the worst consequence they could face.  We want everyone to be safer on the road.”
