Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
(Naples, ME – April 24, 2005) Opening day at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday night April 30th will feature the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model/Pro Stocks in 150 laps of green-flag action.
It’s not a surprise that the PASS regulars are exciting about their return to Oxford after a two season absence. Many of them started their careers at the at the fast western Maine oval. It was September 22, 2002 when multi-time Oxford track champion Mike Rowe claimed his first PASS victory and his 149th Oxford win. That win and a fourth in the April race that year make Mike a strong favorite to win the PASS 150 on N. E. Dodge Dealers Opening Day.
With 52 and 58 cars at the last two Oxford PASS races, fans should expect another big field of PASS teams and Oxford pro stock regulars Saturday night for the 5PM start. In addition to Mike Rowe, his son Ben, a two-time PASS champion, will be looking to build on his win at the PASS season-opener at White Mountain two weeks ago. Scott Mulkern is looking to get one spot better after his second-place finish behind Rowe, and the strong finishes by Cassius Clark, 2004 PASS Champion Johnny Clark, Richie Dearborn, Tracy Gordon, Travis Benjamin, and PASS Rookie leader Alan Wilson all indicate that this is not going to be an easy day at the office for anyone.
Teddy Christopher in Clinton Teague’s #34 will be leading the southern New England contingent that includes Ge Ge Gravel, Bobby Cabral, J. R. Baril, rookie Michael Ruttkamp, and Pete Frappier.
After his third at the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series race at Phoenix last Friday, Scarborough, Maine’s Ryan Moore will be joining the fray, along with Billy Penfold, New York PASS regular Chris Ross, Kirk Thibeau from Ft. Fairfield, ME, and Lonnie Sommerville of St. John, New Brunswick will be leading the Maritimes contingent.
Ricky Rolfe, in Scott Robbins #72 Oxford 2004 championship car, will be leading the Oxford pro stocks after his 12th at the PASS opener at White Mountain.
Racing gets under way at 5PM after PASS time trials with the PASS Modifieds lead by 2004 champion Mark Lucas of Harpswell, ME, the White Mountain opener winner Wayne Allard of Stetson, ME, and Dana Grover and Richie Morse of Waterford are planning on improving on their second and third place finishes at White Mountain. In addition, the Oxford Late Models, Mini Stocks, Strickly Stocks, and Ltd. Sportsman will also be out in force.
