Lee, NH – As the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) rolls into Lee USA Speedway next weekend, expect veteran stock car racer Steve Fisher to pick up where he left off last September. After starting a distant 33rd in the New England Dodge Dealers National 150, the Shelburne, VT driver took his Days Inn Chevrolet to a solid eighth-place finish. He’ll look to top the impressive run at the Seacoast Late Model Challenge 100 on Sat./Sun., April 23/24, the opening round of the ACT Late Model Tour’s 2005 season.
September’s performance came just a month after Fisher posted his first career win at Seekonk (MA) Speedway. His season-long efforts placed him seventh overall, and earned him the coveted “Most Improved Driver” award, as voted on by competitors and officials.
While another win would be a big boost to Fisher’s team, he has just one simple goal for 2005: “I want to qualify for every race,” he said. “I’ve never done that before, and given the number of cars signed up this year it would really be an accomplishment.” Fisher will face an uphill battle at Lee USA as more than 50 teams are expected to compete, but he maintains a positive outlook. “We’re going to Lee to have fun, and we’ll be in the Top 10 if everything goes right.”
Early entrants include Fisher’s younger brother Jamie, former Lee USA winner Patrick Laperle, and defending ACT Late Model Tour Champion Jean-Paul Cyr. Practice for the Seacoast Late Model Challenge 100 is scheduled from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 23. Qualifying begins at 12:00 Noon on Sunday, April 24.
