Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
Lee, NH – Chad Wheeler, the third-place point man at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in 2004, has filed an entry into the Seacoast Late Model Challenge 100 at Lee USA Speedway on Sat./Sun., April 23/24, the opening stock car event for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT). Wheeler was the runner-up in the ACT Late Model Tour’s New England Dodge Dealers National 150 at Lee USA last September, earning nearly $6,000 in prize money.
The Waterbury Ctr., VT driver’s entry into the Seacoast Late Model Challenge 100 brings the early total to 40. That number is expected to continue rising in the weeks leading up to the event. “It’ll be tough to qualify at Lee, there’re going to be a lot of cars,” said Wheeler. “Our car has always been very good at Lee, and if we make it into the feature, we’re shooting for a top-five finish… but that’s only if we make it in!”
A special qualifying format has been implemented, separating ACT Late Model Tour regulars from the weekly Lee USA Late Models. The groups will be mixed together for the 100-lap feature event. ACT’s innovative new “plus/minus” handicap system will also be in effect, rewarding drivers that pass cars in qualifying events with a starting position near the front of the 33-car feature lineup.
Wheeler will join ACT Late Model Tour Champions Jean-Paul Cyr, Phil Scott, and Dave Whitcomb at the Seacoast Late Model Challenge 100. Practice will be held from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 23. Racing begins at 12:00 noon on Sunday, April 24. For more information, call ACT at (802) 244-6963, or visit www.acttour.com
