Mall walkers beware – ACT is coming to town!  For the third year in a row, Burlington, VT’s University Mall will host over 20 ACT race cars for the gawking, drooling, photo snapping, and racing-appetite wetting.  It all begins this Saturday, April 2 at 9:30am – and yes, that cool little remote control car track will be there!  It’s always a no-holds-barred slugfest when those little cars fire up.  And who knows – you may find yourself racing for the win against the likes of champion drivers Jean-Paul Cyr, Jamie Fisher, Reno Gervais, Joe Small, or heck, even your Mom!

We took a bit of a sneak peek at the shiny new cars at the Champlain Valley Motorsports Show in Plattsburgh, NY last weekend, and saw some great looking machinery.  Sprinkled among the many cars from various divisions and race tracks were the ACT Late Models of Cyr, Mark Lamberton, Bryant Trim, and Rusty Berger.  (We’ve got a few pictures posted at www.acttour.com!)  All four cars are sporting a new look this year, and each are early favorites for taking top honors at the official ACT Car Show, held in conjunction with the Thunder Road season opener (April 30/May 1).  That all depends, of course, on any dents and tire marks left over from the Seacoast Late Model Challenge 100 at Lee USA Speedway a week before.

Spotted at the show on Friday night was former Tiger Sportsman Champion Jason Bonnett, sans race car.  Have no fear, though, Bonnett will have his familiar #79 at the U-Mall this weekend.  Joining him will be each of the afore-mentioned drivers, plus more of the best from ACT’s Late Model, NAPA Tiger Sportsman, Allen Lumber Street Stock, and PowerShift Junkyard Warrior divisions.  If you can’t make it on Saturday, we’ll be back on Sunday, April 3 from 11:00am until 6:00pm.  And if that isn’t enough, the Berlin Mall (less than 15 minutes from Thunder Road) will be welcoming ACT back after several years absence, on the weekend of Saturday, April 16. If you’re an ACT or Thunder Road competitor looking to get a spot in the Berlin Mall show, give us a call at (802) 244-6963 ASAP!

Did you know…

  • Mark Lamberton’s new sponsorship agreement with longtime racing supporter Jeffords Steel left the New York veteran scratching his head looking for new paint scheme ideas.  Since recent Jeffords Steel schemes have incorporated red, white, and black (think about the #11 Late Model and the #3 Sportsman), Lamberton chose a mock-up similar to that of Florida driver Mike Fritts.  If Lamberton has the luck Fritts has already had in 2005, you’ll see him in Victory Lane this year – Fritts took four Top 5 finishes and a feature win at New Smyrna Speedway in February.

  • In the ultimate “pretty don’t go” move, Street Stocker Lloyd Blakely used to make a habit out of winning races with cars that provoked tetanus shots.  The veteran certainly never won any car shows, but earned a pile of trophies with his rotted-out Mustangs.  After figuring out that smooth, shiny paint plays a role in the “aero package” though (?), Blakely has finished in Thunder Road’s Top 10 three straight years.

  • Buvy Gamache won the Street Stock car show’s top prize in 1993.  Really, Gamache dominated the competition, earning the most points on every judge’s score sheet.  Why?  It’s simple – his brown and white #50 Buick Starfire was the only Street Stock in the show!

ATTENTION ALL COMPETITORS – Rosters are now up on our ACT and Thunder Road websites.  If you have yet to turn in your Team Registration for 2005, now’s the time!  The forms include your driver and crew member information, car and sponsor information, and all kinds of good stuff that we can use throughout the season.  Also, remember that all ACT Spec Engines must be registered before you can use them in competition.  If you need these forms, give us a call or shoot an e-mail to justin@acttour.com!
