Barre, VT – Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl has been cited as an “Editors’ Choice” in the May 2005 issue of Speedway Illustrated magazine, chosen by two of the publication’s major editors as the nation’s best short track. Speedway Illustrated is the nation’s leading stock car racing publication with published monthly circulation of 120,000.
Executive Editor Dr. Dick Berggren, a well-known television broadcaster, said of Thunder Road, “It’s where fans can see stock car racing at its best and racers can hammer down in fast but affordable cars.”
Speedway Illustrated’s Technical Editor Karl Fredrickson also named Thunder Road his favorite asphalt short track, and noted the close competition. “Thrilling races by full fields tempered by a promoter who does not tolerate a poor show,” he remarked. Fredrickson also made mention of the track’s weekly fan support. “The track is so wildly popular,” he said, “that it’s hard to tell the difference between a weekly event and the biggest show of the year based solely on grandstand attendance.”
Editor in Chief Rob Sneddon also shared his fellow editors’ high regard for Thunder Road, but chose Massachusetts’ Seekonk Speedway as his favorite track. Seekonk Speedway will host the ACT Late Model Tour on Saturday, August 13 for a 100-lap event.
Thunder Road’s 46th season opens with the ACT Late Model Tour’s Merchants Bank 150 on Sunday, May 1. A record field of entries from the northeastern United States and Canada is anticipated for the $10,000-to-win Labor Day Classic “Super Series” 150 on Sunday, September 4. The season will draw to a close with the 42nd New England Dodge Dealers Milk Bowl on October 2. For more information, call (802) 244-6963, or visit www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com
