Waterbury, VT – Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl officials are pleased to announce that Mekkelsen RV, Vermont’s largest and oldest RV dealer, will present the 40th annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic, on Sunday, May 29.
Mekkelsen RV has been a proud supporter of Thunder Road since 1994, and has presented the Memorial Day Classic since 1996. “It has been an awesome relationship,” said Bruce Mekkelsen, President of Mekkelsen RV. “Weekend camping is a huge part of Thunder Road’s tradition, and we know that our guests at Mekkelsen RV are often the very same folks that are at Thunder Road every week in the summer.”
The Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic, a 100-lap Late Model event, is one of the most storied races in Thunder Road’s 46-year history. In 2004, upstart Joe Becker and New York veteran Mark Lamberton left fans speechless as they turned in one of the most memorable duels in New England racing history, with Becker taking his first career win after Lamberton went up in smoke in the final corner.
“The racing is unbelievable at Thunder Road,” Mekkelsen continued. “If the finish of the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic is even half as spectacular this year as it was last year, we’re all in for something special.” Becker’s breakthrough victory entered him into the Mekkelsen RV Winner’s Circle program at Thunder Road for 2004. The Mekkelsen RV Winner’s Circle gives the previous event’s winner in the ACT Late Model, NAPA Tiger Sportsman, and Allen Lumber Street Stock divisions a reserved stall in the Thunder Road pit area each week, and enters their names into a drawing for a weekend’s use of a recreational vehicle, courtesy of Mekkelsen RV.
Mekkelsen RV is conveniently located on Route 2 in East Montpelier, VT, and has over 200 new and pre-owned units in stock. For more information, call (802) 223-3684, or toll-free at 1 (800) 300-3684, or visit www.MekkelsenRV.com. Thunder Road’s 46th season opens Sunday, May 1 with the ACT Late Model Tour’s Merchants Bank 150. For schedules and other information, call (802) 244-6963, or log on to www.acttour.com. -30-
