Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
BARRE, VT Young stock car driver Brendan Moodie is looking for his first big win at Barres Thunder Road, and hes looking to take it at Sundays Casella Waste Management 100. The 23 year-old North Wolcott driver currently ranks fifth in championship point standings in the NAPA Tiger Sportsman class and has made major gains in tracking down his first division title. Six weeks ago, Moodie ranked 19th, well behind the leaders. Entering the Casella 100, he is only 54 points out of first place. Were creeping up on (the point lead), thats for sure, said Moodie, a former Allen Lumber Street Stock Champion at Thunder Road. The car has been incredible this year, and Ive had a lot of good help working on it. We can win this race, and I feel good about our chances at the championship. Moodie snatched his first win of the year the third of his Sportsman career at the CARQUEST VT Governors Cup event in June, taking the lead away in the final corner. Since then, the worst finish his Martin Construction #94 Chevrolet has turned in is an eleventh, in a division that routinely sends more than a dozen drivers home without qualifying for the 30-lap main event. Now, with the opportunity to seize the moment in the biggest race of the season, Moodie feels confident in his chances. Joey Laquerre and Craig Bushey, theyve been up front for wins and championships quite a few times, and itll be hard to shake them up, Moodie said, but I know I can race with them and Im certainly just as fast. Im revved up for this race, and Im ready to try and win this title. Laquerre, of East Montpelier, leads Cambridge racer Bushey by 22 points (603-581). Craftsburys Joel Hodgdon sits third at 577 points, with Hinesburgs Tom Therrien (568) and Moodie (549) close behind. Pete Ainsworth, Shawn Sicard, James Hebert, Eric Badore, and Mark Barnier complete the Top 10. The NAPA Tiger Sportsmen will be joined at the Casella Waste Management 100 by Thunder Roads regular weekly Late Model, Street Stock, and Power Shift Online Junkyard Warrior divisions. Late Models will race 50 laps, with the Street Stocks going 25 circuits. The Warrior class will run double 18-lap features, beginning with the Calkins Portables/WDEV Radio race rained out last month. General admission for the Casella Waste Management 100 is just $9.50 for adults, $3 for children (6-12), and only $20 for a family of any two adults and two kids. Gates open at 3:30pm, with racing action underway at 5:00pm.
