T Road wins award at Speedway Expo

Thunder Road Wins Best Weekly Show Award at SpeedwayEXPO

For Immediate Release                                        TR-030308-1

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA Thunder Road Intl Speedbowl was named the winner of SpeedwayEXPOs second
annual Best Weekly Show award at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA on Sunday, March 2.  The
Barre, VT stock car track, known as the Nations Site of Excitement, is set to begin its 49th season with the
Merchants Bank 150 for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Championship Late Models on May 4.
First opened in 1960, Thunder Road is highly regarded for its fast-paced and entertaining programs,
affordable family ticket prices, high car counts, and exciting action every summer Thursday night.  Four racing
divisions compete at the high-banked 1/4-mile asphalt oval from May to September.
Only two seasons old, SpeedwayEXPO has already established itself as the northeasts premier annual stock
car racing trade show and exposition.  Hosted by the award-winning staff at Dick Berggrens Speedway Illustrated
magazine, SpeedwayEXPOs Speedy Awards are designed to honor grassroots race teams, tracks, organizers, fans,
and supporters.  Race fans submit nominations and votes for 11 Speedy Award categories, with the winners
determined by a combination of fan votes and Speedway Illustrated staff collaboration.
It is a special honor for Thunder Road to be recognized by its loyal fan base as well as the media not
just in Vermont, but throughout New England and the northeast, said Thunder Road promoter Tom Curley.  Our
staff, racers, fans, and sponsors are the very best in the business, and winning the Best Weekly Show award is a
tribute to them all.
Also in the running for Best Weekly Show were Connecticuts Thompson Intl Speedway, All-Star Speedway in
Epping, NH, and Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, NY.  Thunder Roads prestigious season-ending Chittenden Milk
Bowl event also received a nomination for Best Individual Promotion, and its winner, Série ACT Castrol Champion
Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, QC, won the Speedy Award for Best Northeast Touring Racer.
The 10th Annual Merchants Bank 150 for the ACT Late Model Tour and Thunder Roads weekly NAPA Tiger
Sportsman, Allen Lumber Street Stock, and Power Shift Online Junkyard Warrior divisions, plus the
traditional Class Day celebration and ceremony is Sunday, May 4.  For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or
