BARRE, VT Teenage American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car racing sensation Joey Pole Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH lived up to his nickname at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Saturday afternoon, setting fast time in Booth Bros./H.P. Hood time trial qualifying for the 44th Chittenden Milk Bowl. With a best lap of 12.967 seconds around the high-banked ¼-mile oval, Polewarczyk earned $1,000 and the pole starting position for Sundays three-segment, cumulatively scored race for the second straight year.
Polewarczyk will be joined on the front row of Chittenden Milk Bowl Segment I by former ACT Late Model Tour Champion Dave Whitcomb of Essex Jct., VT, who was locked into the starting lineup based on his best lap 13.092 seconds. White Mountain Motorsports Park Track Champion Quinny Welch of Lancaster, NH was locked into the third starting position with a lap time of 13.124 seconds.
Joey Laquerre of East Montpelier, VT, Phil Scott of Middlesex, VT, and Serie ACT Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle of Montreal, QC each won their 50-lap qualifying races, and will start in positions four through six. Multi-time ACT Champions Brian Hoar of Williston, VT and Robbie Crouch of Tampa, FL will occupy row number four. Turner, ME racers Ben Rowe and Glen Luce will round out the Top 10 starters on Sunday.
Sundays racing action begins at 1:00pm with a pair of last-chance B Feature qualifying races. With twenty cars scheduled to start each race, only the winners will transfer to the 44th Annual Chittenden Milk Bowl starting grid. Hodgdon Crowned Power Shift Warrior Champion at Thunder Road Pierce earns second win of season

BARRE, VT Archie Bunker Hodgdon, III of Hardwick collected his first Power Shift Online Junkyard Warrior Championship at Barres Thunder Road on Saturday following the 20-lap Booth Bros./H.P. Hood feature event for the entry-level division at the 44th Annual Chittenden Milk Bowl. Hodgdon sped to a fourth-place finish in the race and outdistanced Wolcott driver Jamie Davis for the title. Its so great to be a part of Thunder Road and to race in front of all these fans, Hodgdon said. My family and my sponsors are the greatest, and hopefully well have some success together next year in the Street Stock division. Hodgdon drove the #20 Lazy Lions Campground/MH Cleaning Service VW Golf to the championship on the strength of two feature victories and 11 top-five finishes in 19 starts. Brett Pierce of Montpelier dominated the race for his second victory of the season. He crossed the line in front of Lyndonvilles Dale Bickford and Mark LaFleche of Graniteville. Mike Ducey of Williamstown followed Hodgdon across the finish line. Neal Foster, Davis, Frank Sanborn, Donny Yates, and Leonard Sanborn completed the unofficial top ten finishers in order. Sweet, Therrien End Thunder Road Championship Seasons With Victories

BARRE, VT Hometown stock car racer Nick Sweet and Hinesburg rookie driver Bobby Therrien shone at the season-ending Chittenden Milk Bowl at Barres Thunder Road on Sunday afternoon. In front of the seasons largest crowd, both youngsters captured not only feature event victories in their respective divisions, they were also crowned Thunder Road Champions. Sweet, 23, locked up the NAPA Tiger Sportsman division title with a 50-lap Chittenden victory of North Wolcotts Brendan Moodie. He took the lead just after the halfway mark before cruising to victory. Tom Therrien, Bobbys older brother, stole third place on the final lap from Duxburys Kris Grout. Chuck Beede of Williamstown finished fifth. Rookie James Hebert, Brian Delphia, Chris Chambers, Kevin Boutin, Jr., and Joe Steffen rounded out the unofficial top ten in order. Sweet drove the #50 Fortiers Community Care Home/SymQuest Group Chevrolet to three victories on the year, and outdistanced Craig Bushey of Cambridge for the championship. Bobby Therrien became the first rookie driver in Allen Lumber Street Stock division history to earn the Thunder Road Championship, outlasting a season-long challenge from veteran Lloyd Blakely of Barre. Twenty year-old Therrien earned his sixth feature victory of the season, breaking a record he sat last month, and tying the record for victories by a driver in a single season in Thunder Roads modern era (since 1982). Therrien sped from 20th starting position to win the 30-lap Chittenden finale, holding off fellow freshman racer Mike Ziter of Williamstown. Craftsbury Commons Mike Martin finished third ahead of Greg Adams, Jr. of Hardwick and Burlington rookie Vern Woodard. Tommy Smith, Gary Mullen, Ron Gabaree, Michael Moore, and rookie Josh LaCourse completed the unofficial top ten. Laperle Kisses the Cow at Thunder Road Montreal driver wins 44th Annual Chittenden Milk Bowl

BARRE, VT American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car driver Patrick Laperle of Montreal earned a convincing victory in the 44th Annual Chittenden Milk Bowl at Thunder Road Intl Speedbowl in Barre, VT on Sunday. The recently crowned Champion of the Serie ACT Castrol in his native Canada took the win with a dominating nine-point spread over runner-up Ben Rowe of Turner, ME in the three-segment, cumulatively scored race. Man, the car was unbelievable all day long. It was fast anywhere I tried to drive it, said the popular Frenchman. I love Thunder Road, and I love the Milk Bowl. The victory was Laperles second in the race in three years. As is tradition, Laperle was greeted in victory lane by a real Vermont beauty, Dickens, a prize- winning Ayrshire dairy cow from Harvest Hills Farm, and planted a kiss on her snout. I dont mind doing that if it means I win the Milk Bowl, Laperle joked. Laperle turned in finishes of second, seventh, and fourth in the Chittenden Milk Bowls three 50- lap segments for a total score of 13 points (each finishing position in a segment is worth a point value first place awards one point, second place awards two points, etc.). Rowes finishes of third, 13th, and sixth gave him a total score of 22 points for the overall runner-up spot. Former ACT Late Model Tour Champion Dave Whitcomb finished third overall (5+18+3=26 points). Brian Hoar of Williston, VT matched his best ACT finish of the season in fourth place overall (10+15+2=27 points), winning a three-way tie involving Turner, MEs Mike Rowe (13+4+10) and Milton, VTs Brent Dragon (11+3+13). In the event of ties for overall position, the driver with the highest final- segment finish is award the higher overall position. Cris Michaud of Williamstown, VT (12+10+9=31 points), Roger Brown of Lancaster, NH (9+11+11=31 points), Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT (15+1+17=33 points), and Scott Payea of Milton, VT (8+12+14=34 points) rounded out the unofficial top ten overall finish. Ziter Disqualified From Apparent Runner-Up Finish at Thunder Road

BARRE, VT Stock car driver Mike Ziter of Williamstown has been disqualified from his apparent second- place finish in Sundays 30-lap Allen Lumber Street Stock feature at Barres Thunder Road. The event was run in conjunction with the 44th Annual Chittenden Milk Bowl for the American-Canadian Tour. Ziter was found to have illegal pistons in the engine of his Ford Mustang in post-race inspection. He has been stripped of all points and purse money earned in Sundays race. The disqualification moves Mike Martin of Craftsbury Common into the runner-up position behind winner Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, with Hardwicks Greg Adams, Jr. inheriting the third place finish. Rookie Vern Woodard of Burlington and Tommy Smith of Williamstown now complete the top five finishers. Twenty year-old rookie Therrien clinched the Allen Lumber Street Stock Championship with the feature win. He becomes the first freshman driver in Thunder Roads modern era (since 1982) to win a division championship. The Chittenden victory was his sixth win of the season, also a new record.
