Just when you thought the 8th Annnual Speed Weekend couldn't possibly offer anything more for race fans along comes "manna from heaven". Patrick LaPerle, the young racing prodigy from Saint Denis, PQ who Junior Hanley reportedly holds in the highest of regard has announced that he will compete in the Pepsi 250 Atl Championships Speed Weekend event on Oct 6th. LaPerle, who has also been a top driver in the PASS Series in recent years will drive a car prepared by SFR. "I got a call from Junior about the car" said Frank Fraser, "Hanley regards this kid highly. He may even show up with him but you'd never get Junior to tell you for sure", Frank continued. The 0 car will be prepared for LaPerle by SFR. LaPerle just secured his first ACT Championship on the weekend.
LaPerle will have some stiff competition in the likes of John Flemming, Frank Fraser, George Kozkulics, Rollie MacDonald, Glenn Rasmusen, Lonnie Sommerville, and Kirk Thibeau to name a few among the Pro Stocks who are currently registered for the Atl. Championships Speed Weekend '07. Twenty eight Pro Stock Teams have now expressed their intent to compete. Stay tuned, we hope to announce some more exciting names soon.
In other news Fredericton area drivers Brian Gillesbie and Mike Francis, 2006 champs in their respective classes, have announced they will defend their titles at this years Speed Weekend, Oct 5 - 7.
It's certainly shaping up to be a heck of a weekend and with all the celebratory events around it it's going to be a great way to end the season. See you in Shediac.
