Bond Auto Labor Classic 200 Contender Trampas Demers Files Entry
For Immediate Release ACT-082107-1
BARRE, VT American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car driver Trampas Demers has filed an entry for the $50,000+ ACTion Super Series 29th Bond Auto Labor Classic 200 at Thunder Road Intl Speedbowl (Barre, VT), Sunday, Sept. 2. Demers, a regular weekly competitor at the high-banked ¼-mile oval, fell just short of scoring a major upset victory at last years Bond Auto Labor Classic 200. The South Burlington, VT driver trailed leaders Eric Williams and Dave Pembroke by a single car length in the final corner, taking his best career ACT Late Model Tour finish in third place. A run like that builds confidence and makes you believe that you have a chance against the Tour teams, said Demers. Were used to running short 50-lap features on Thursday nights; two hundred laps at Thunder Road can wear a driver out. Everything has to go your way and you have to keep your concentration every lap. Were confident that we can run with and beat guys like Jean-Paul Cyr, Scott Payea, and all the top ACT drivers. Cyr and Payea are 1-2 in ACT Late Model Tour point standings after nine of 13 events. Cyr is the six-time and defending ACT champion, while Payea picked up his second career ACT victory at New Hampshires White Mountain Motorsports Park last weekend. Both drivers hail from Milton, VT. Demers has also filed an entry for the $10,000-to-win 44th annual Vermont Milk Bowl, Sat./Sun., Sept. 29/30, the final round of the ACTion Super Series. Demers won the pole position in time trial qualifying for the race in 2003. Truthfully, we havent had that great of a season at Thunder Road, admitted Demers, but the car has been performing much better over the last two or three weeks, and we believe well really have something for the Tour drivers at the Super Series races. Last week I found a new place in the corners that my car will work well in during the time trials at the Milk Bowl. Were already getting prepared. In addition to the ACTion Super Series events at Thunder Road, Fraserville, Ontarios Kawartha Speedway will host the $6,000-to-win Summer Sizzler 200 on Saturday, Sept. 15. As many as 60 Late Model race teams from the United States and Canada are expected to compete at the ACTion Super Series events. Green flag qualifying action at Thunder Roads 29th Bond Auto Labor Classic 200 begins on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1:00pm. Optional ACT Late Model practice sessions will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1 beginning at 12:00 noon, joined by qualifying events for Thunder Roads three weekly racing divisions at 2:30pm. Mike and Ben Rowe to Return to Thunder Road for Bond Auto Labor Day Classic Elder Mike Rowe to make first Vermont race appearance since 2000
For Immediate Release TR-082907-1
BARRE, VT Champion stock car racers Mike and Ben Rowe of Turner, ME will make their return to Barre, VTs Thunder Road Intl Speedbowl on Sunday, Sept. 2 for the American-Canadian Tours $50,000+ 29th Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200, part of the ACTion Super Series. The father-son duo has won races and championships all along the eastern seaboard, and each will make their first trip of the year around the Thunder Road high banks this weekend. For Mike Rowe, Sundays race ends a seven-year absence in the Green Mountain State. Its been a long time, but Im looking forward to coming back to Thunder Road, he said. I always liked Thunder Road in the old days, and I think well have a good car for this weekend. Rowes last appearance at Thunder Road was behind the wheel of a Phil Scott team car at the 2000 VT Milk Bowl. Practice on Saturday and getting used to the place again should be pretty interesting, Mike Rowe continued. I hear theres going to be a lot of cars. Hopefully, well have something to show for ourselves by the end of the day on Sunday. Mike Rowe was the 1994 Champion of the ACT Pro Stock Tour, solidifying his title run with a September victory at Thunder Road that year. He took the inaugural Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South crown last season, and has seven track titles and 150 feature victories at Maines Oxford Plains Speedway. Rowe will reunite with car owner Mike Lux for the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200. Lux has recently fielded ACT entries for Quebec racer Patrick Laperle, and has been a long-time Rowe supporter. Driving for New Hampshires David Avery last season, three-time PASS North Champion Ben Rowe finished 20th in his first Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200. We want to figure out Thunder Road this weekend, said the younger Rowe. Of all the tracks Ive been to, Ive never struggled anywhere as much as at Thunder Road. I want to win there before I retire, but for now Ill be happy just to qualify and finish on the lead lap. There will be a ton of cars, and Id love to run up front with Jean-Paul Cyr, Brent Dragon, Cris Michaud, and the rest, but our focus is on getting in the show and being competitive. I think Scott Payea will be tough again this weekend, and I enjoyed running with him at White Mountain. I understand that he won (the Merchants Bank 150) at Thunder Road this spring, so he should be one of the men to beat. Ben Rowe will steer a Richard Moody Racing entry this weekend. He led 21 laps with the car at the most recent ACT Late Model Tour event at White Mountain Motorsports Park two weeks ago, spending much of the race battling with eventual winner Payea for the top spot. Ben took four ACT Late Model Tour victories in the Avery car last year. The Rowes will face off against top ACT Late Model Tour point drivers Cyr, Payea, and Rocket Roger Brown, and as many as 50 others at the 29th Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 on Sunday, Sept. 2 at Thunder Road. An optional ACT practice, along with preliminary qualifying for Thunder Roads weekly NAPA Tiger Sportsman, Allen Lumber Street Stock, and Power Shift Warrior divisions will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday, Sept. 1. ACT qualifying begins at 1:00 pm on Sunday. Thunder Road is located on Fisher Road at the top of Quarry Hill in Barre, VT.
