Actor Rusty DeWees to Scrawl on New Books at Thunder Road
For Immediate Release TR-082007-1
BARRE, VT Actor, musician, and new author Rusty DeWees of Elmore will hold a book signing at Barres Thunder Road as part of the Fisher/Federated Auto Parts stock car racing program on Tuesday, August 28. No stranger to Thunder Road, DeWees perhaps more commonly known by his stage name The Logger will autograph copies of his soon-to-be-released book, Scrawlins. During the early years of his wildly popular one-man show named after his character, DeWees was a weekly competitor in Thunder Roads Allen Lumber Street Stock division. You better get it, you might be in it, or at least know someone in it, said DeWees of Scrawlins. I figured Thunder Road might be a good place to unveil the new book because theres lots of people there that at least know someone in it. Scrawlins is a collection of 94 short stories written by DeWees about topics like why theres an i in iPod, Vermonters and their thoughts on global warming, and the time DeWees was surprised to find a snake hampering his weed-whacking duties around the house. The book isnt necessarily written from the point of view of my character, The Logger, DeWees says, but its got a bunch of Loggery-type stories. Some are true, some arent. Some are funny, and some are a little sad. Its just a myriad of things that I wanted to write down. Scrawlins will be available in stores in mid-September. To read reviews and order a copy of Scrawlins, or to check out everything else you could ever want to know or buy about the ol Logger, Rusty DeWees, click on www.thelogger.com. DeWees appearance at Thunder Road is just part of the excitement surrounding Fisher/Federated Auto Parts Night. American-Canadian Tour Late Model drivers Jamie Fisher of Shelburne, Dave Pembroke of Montpelier, and Cris Michaud of Williamstown are in the midst of the tightest three-way King of the Road championship race in history. Just seven points separate the drivers with two championship races remaining on the schedule. Following this weeks Kinney Drugs event, Fisher/Federated Auto Parts Night will decide the 2007 Thunder Road Late Model Champion. Gates open on Fisher/Federated Auto Parts Night, Tuesday, August 28 at 4:30pm, with racing action scheduled to start at 6:30pm. General admission is $9 for adults, $3 for kids, and just $18 for a family of any two adults and two children. Scott, Becker Not Giving Up Thunder Road Title Fight
For Immediate Release TR-082107-1
BARRE, VT Stock car drivers Phil Scott and Joey Becker are currently chasing a trio of tightly-grouped championship point leaders at Barres Thunder Road entering Thursdays 50-lap Kinney Drugs trophy dash, the final Thursday night event on the Thunder Road schedule. Veteran racer Scott is a three-time American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model King of the Road while Becker is a young up-and-comer, having won the Rookie of the Year title in 2003. Were still in this thing, said Scott. Weve been on a roll lately, and were really building momentum. The Middlesex driver picked up his first victory of the season in last weeks Vermont ACE Hardware Dealers feature and now trails leader Jamie Fisher by 57 points. We had a tough early season, but we can chase the leaders down, its been done before. The good part is that theres no pressure from where my team sits; the top three are fighting tooth-and-nail, and my job right now is to sneak into it. Fisher, a Shelburne native, leads Dave Pembroke of Montpelier and Williamstowns Cris Michaud by a total spread of just seven points, the closest three-way battle in Thunder Roads 48-year history. Scott paces Becker by two points. In terms of sheer mathematics, fifteen drivers are still within the championship window with two races remaining. The final point-counting race for the Late Model division is at next Tuesdays Fisher/Federated Auto Parts event. Were not giving up, said Becker of Jeffersonville. Realistically, the top three guys would have to have some bad luck, but anything is possible at Thunder Road. Ive finished second in points seven different times since my days in the Tigers and Street Stocks, so itll be hard for me to get caught up in the championship hype until I win one. We try our hardest every week, and it is what it is but it would be nice to win a championship at Thunder Road! The ACT Late Models, along the weekly NAPA Tiger Sportsman, Allen Lumber Street Stock, and Power Shift Online Junkyard Warrior divisions, will be in action at Thunder Road on Thursday beginning at 6:30pm. Fisher, Nick Sweet, Lloyd Blakely, and Bunker Hodgdon lead the divisions, respectively. Kinney Drugs will host the final Thursday night racing program of the season, along with the annual Kids Poster Contest. Awards will be given to Thunder Roads youthful racing artists in three age groups: 6 & under, 7-9, and 10-12. Gates open at 4:30pm. General admission is only $9 for adults, $3 for kids (6-12, kids under 6 get in free), and just $18 for a family ticket for any two adults and two children.
