Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
LAVIGEUR WINS WILD EVENT AT ST-EUSTACHE For Immediate Release ACT-052707-1 ST-EUSTACHE, QUEBEC Stock car racer Normand Lavigeur of Laval, QC turned a strong lead-pack performance into a surprise Serie ACT Castrol victory at Autodrome St-Eustache (St-Eustache, Qc) on Saturday night. Lavigeur, who started the St-Eustache 100 in fourth place, was among the top five drivers throughout the race until a lap 88 crash took leaders Patrick Laperle and Sylvain Lacombe out of contention. Lavigeur assumed the lead position under caution ahead of Martin Lacombe, Steven Boissonneault, and Alexandre Ginrgas, and proceeded to pull away when Boissonneault and Gingras came together just two laps later. As Gingras pulled his car into the low groove to attempt to pass Boissonneault for second place on lap 90, the two made contact exiting Turn 4. Gingras car then vaulted over the pit wall and barrel-rolled before coming to a rest on its wheels. Boissonneault was able to continue following the red flag to clean up the accident. Gingras was uninjured. Lavigeur was able to keep Boissonneault at bay as racing resumed, and scored his first victory of the season in two starts. I knew for sure that my car was good enough to finish in the top three, said a happy Lavigeur, but I didnt know I was going to win the race! Boissonneault had mixed emotions following his runner-up finish. Im pleased with a podium finish, this is my best race since 2004, he said. I assume half of the blame in the crash with Gingras, though, because I did not know he was trying to pass me and I cut down on him. It was not intentional. Jean-Francois Dery of Val-Belair, QC assumed the unofficial point lead for the Serie ACT Castrol after a fine third-place finish. Dery started 21st in the 25-car field and earned the Kenyon Racing Products Hard Charger Award for improving his starting position the most number of positions. Martin Lacombe and Andre Coursol finished in fourth and fifth, respectively. Yvon Bedard and Mike Lavoie finished sixth and seventh, ahead of Laperle and Sylvain Lacombe, who recovered to finish eighth and ninth. Laperle, who continues to recover from a severe illness which had him in the hospital for over three weeks, led the first 88 laps until his crash with Lacombe. Simon Roussin rounded out the Top 10. The next event for the Serie ACT Castrol will be Saturday, June 9 at Capital City Speedway in Ottawa, Ontario. The Toromont CAT 100 will be the Serie ACT Castrols first trip to the province of Ontario.
