"Alexander Captures Monadnock Mod Mania Qualifier"
Two time True Value Modified Racing Series champion Kirk Alexander, Swanzey, NH; captured the "Artioli Auto Group 100", his 1st win of the season Saturday night, in front of a large holiday weekend crowd at the Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, NH. The win was Alexanders 22nd career victory with the traveling series. He is also the third different winner in as many events this season and is the early point leader in the point standings. 26 modified racers started the feature race with veteran drivers Jimmy Kuhn Jr. W.Bridgewater, MA; and Louie Mechalides,Tyngsboro, MA; bringing the field to green with Kuhn jumping into the early lead and holding it until passed by defending champion Dwight Jarvis,Ascutney,VT. on lap 17. Ten laps later Alexander wheeled his # 43 Sirum Equipment, Garys Power Equipment racer, to the top spot with Jarvis in hot pursuit. At lap 30 the top five consisted of Alexander, Jarvis, Mechalides, Kuhn, and second year modified driver Bryan Shumway, Belchertown, MA; who ran his strongest race to date. At lap 50 the same five cars were leading the field. Alexander picked up the Black Mountain Painting award for fronting the race at the halfway mark. The first caution flag was also displayed for a spinning Dave Berube, Bristol, CT; on the 50th go around. Lap 56 saw Plainville, CT; veteran Ted Christopher blast by Kuhn to crack the top five for the first time in the race. Lap 60 would find Alexander, Jarvis, Mechalides, Shumway and Christopher making up the top spots. The second caution flag flew for Mike Holdridge, Madison, CT; who spun on lap 65. At lap 70, Christopher moved to fourth and Les Hinckley, Windsor Locks, CT; moved into the 5th spot after starting 26th on the grid. Mike Douglas Jr spun on lap 78 drawing the third yellow flag. Two laps later, Hinckley would move to second and Rob Goodenough, Swanzey, NH; one of two provisionals in the field, would roll to fourth spot getting by Mechalides. Goodenough started the race 24th. At the 90th lap, Alexander, Hinckley, Jarvis, Goodenough, and Mechalides made up the top five. The fourth and final caution period was displayed at lap 98 for a spinning Ed Dachenhausen, Danbury, CT. On the restart, Alexander was able to hold off Hinckley for the win.16 cars started the 20 lap "B" main with the win going to Dachenhausen. Karl Fredrickson, Fremont, NH; Kevin Konopka, Meriden, CT; Andy Seuss, Hampstead,NH; and Jimmy Dolan, Bethel, CT; made up the top six to gain entry into the feature race.
