MERCHANTS BANK PIT STOP CONTEST TEAMS GUNNING FOR HODGDON

BARRE, VT Six stock car pit crew teams from Barre, VTs own Thunder Road International Speedbowl and the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) are expected to challenge two-time defending Champions Joel Hodgdon and the Watson Real Estate/Tofanis Used Furniture team at the third annual Merchants Bank Pit Stop Contest on Saturday, May 5. The competition will be held on Main Street in Downtown Barre City in conjunction with the Merchants Bank Car Show, celebrating the opening of Thunder Roads 48th season of exciting stock car racing action. Hodgdon, a NAPA Tiger Sportsman rookie driver in 2007, has put together a championship-winning pit crew in each of the two previous pit stop contests. The five-person Craftsbury, VT team defeated all takers while representing the Allen Lumber Street Stock division in 2005 and 2006. Scheduled to challenge the Hodgdon team this year are the Merchants Bank/Burrell Roofing team of three- time Thunder Road Late Model Champion Cris Michaud; the Sticks & Stuff/RPM Motorsports team of six-time and defending ACT Late Model Tour Champion Jean-Paul Cyr; the VT Army National Guard/Ultramar team of two-time Sportsman Champion and 2007 Late Model driver Shawn Fleury; the A.H. Fence/Milton Rental & Sales team of Street Stock Champion and 2007 Sportsman rookie Eric Badore; and two teams comprised of officials representing Barre Town and Barre City. The Merchants Bank Car Show kicks off at 9:00am on Saturday, May 5, with the Merchants Bank Pit Stop Contest slated to begin at 10:15am. A parade to Thunder Road on Quarry Hill for all race cars in attendance nearly 125 in total will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by practice at the speedway at 1:00 pm. Thunder Roads traditional Class Day ceremonies begin on Sunday, May 6 at 1:00pm, and qualifying action for the ACT Late Model Tours 9th annual Merchants Bank 150 begins at 1:30pm.
