Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
In spite of the fact that another nor’easter brewing is brewing, New England-based Late Model race teams are hard at work prepping their cars for the coming race season. For U.S. and Canadian ACT Tour and Quebec Series competitors, there is considerable opportunity to do some testing in an actual competition setting prior to the 2007 ACT Tour kick-off on Saturday, April 28 at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway. The 3/8ths mile speedplant will host the New England Dodge Dealers 150. ACT’s Québec Late Model Série is not set to open until mid-May at Autodrome Montmagny Speedway, also a 3/8ths mile oval.
First on the list of potential shake down events is a 50-lapper at Waterford (CT) Speedbowl, a 3/8ths mile semi-banked oval. No foolin’, the race is slated for Sunday, April 1. Practice is set for Saturday, March 31. The ACT competitors have visited the Connecticut speedplant twice in the past several years. Milton, Vermont’s Brent Dragon survived 100° temperatures en route to victory in a 2003 Independence Holiday 100 lapper. A first career win went to the “Rocketman” Roger Brown of Lancaster, NH the next year.
Brown, the first driver to file a season entry with the ACT Tour has revealed that he plans to take advantage of the early seat time availability in the Waterford event, “I always liked racing there,” he said. “Any time that you can get on the track is helpful, but it’s especially beneficial when you can actually race instead of just turning laps practicing. We’ll hope for the best,” he finished.
